Petcube Interactive Wi-Fi Pet Camera

If you are like me, you love your pets. Which can make it difficult to leave home and head for work or go on a vacation. You naturally begin to wonder what your pets are up to back at home. Are they sitting by the door waiting for my arrival? Or are they tearing the place apart? Thanks to the Petcube Interactive Wi-Fi Pet Camera, I might be able to get the answer to these questions.

Petcube Interactive Wi-Fi Pet Camera

There are a few different products on the market that use a video camera connected to your Wi-Fi network to view video from your smartphone while you are not at home. I started researching these products to find out which one works best.

The Petcube is one of the products that seems to come up frequently in discussions about home pet monitoring. Another similar device is the Petzi Treat Cam. Upon initial review, it appears the major difference between the two is that the Petzi has a built-in treat dispenser, while the Petcube includes a built-in laser pointer.

If you are also thinking about buying one of these devices, then you may be interested in what I discovered about the Petcube Interactive Wi-Fi Pet Camera.

Overview of the Petcube

What is the Petcube? Essentially, it is a home video camera that connects to your Wi-Fi. You can then access a streaming video feed from the camera via a smartphone app. Here are a few other details of this device:

  • Live 720 pixel HD streaming to your phone
  • Interactive laser pointer
  • Take photos of your pets while you are away
  • Speak to your pets through the speakers on the device
  • iOS and Android compatible

From the app, you can move your finger around to move the laser pointer and interact with your pet. The device sends an HD video to your phone and allows you to snap photos. You can instantly share these photos on social media.

Pros of the Petcube

What are the advantages of using the Petcube? From my research, it seems the primary benefits are right in the description:

  • Interact with your pet while you are away
  • Take photos and share them on social media
  • Compatible with iOS and Android devices

The main benefit of this device is being able to watch and interact with your pets while are away. This could be a great way to check in on your pets while you are at work or on vacation. You can also simply slide your finger around on the app to move the laser pointer or speak to your pet. It also compatible with both iPhones and Android devices.

Cons of the Petcube

As entertaining as this device can be, there are a few drawbacks to point out. After spending some time researching the Petcube Interactive Wi-Fi Pet Camera, I found a few complaints from users. These should not be deal breakers for most pet owners – just minor inconveniences:

  • The camera does not have night vision
  • The app does not record video
  • Wi-Fi can be tricky to set up

One issue that has been reported by various users is that the camera does not have night vision. Unless you leave a light on, you will have difficulty playing with your pet at night. Even in low-light situations, the video appears grainy. This is not a major issue, but you should still be aware of it before making a decision.

The included app does not record video. It does provide video streaming for interacting with the device and allow you to take pictures – but no video.

The device works by connecting to your Wi-Fi network. Some users have had trouble setting this up. Though, once it is connected, everything works fine. Unless you move your device. After moving your device to another location, you might have to go through the process of reconnecting to your network.

Final Thoughts

Should I buy the Petcube? From everything that I have researched, this definitely sounds like a quality device. The only issues that have been repeatedly mentioned by customers are that the device can be difficult to connect to the Wi-Fi network.

I’m sure with some fiddling, it should not be too hard to figure out. It does not record video, but this is not a major issue either. It can stream video, which is the purpose of the device. The fact that it even takes photos is an added bonus.

As mentioned, I also came across a similar device – the Petzi Treat Cam. Both products seem like quality devices, with one major difference – the Petzi dispenses treats while the Petcube has a laser pointer.

In my opinion, this is the difference between dogs and cats. My dogs would probably not play with a laser pointer – it would just confuse them. But cats would probably love it. The reverse is true with the Petzi – it is a perfect idea for dogs, but may not work as well as with cats.

In the end, I think I’ll definitely give this device a try. The Petcube Interactive Wi-Fi Pet Camera appears to be solidly built, has a sleek design, and functions as it is supposed to.
